Our Vision

We aim to be recognised as one of the most successful CCGs in the country in terms of innovation, public engagement, educational programmes, clinical leadership and delivery of health gain. We define health gain as the difference between our local morbidity and mortality rates and that expected given the socio economic status of our population.

Our Mission

Our mission is to build a better health service for the local population that is safe, accessible and cost effective; one that strives to continually improve, whilst staying true to the founding principles of the National Health Service. We will do this in partnership with other health and social care providers and, above all, with the communities we serve within Newcastle upon Tyne.

Our vision and mission are not new and were originally developed to reflect the way of working that underpinned our practice-based commissioning group. This evolved over time in conjunction with patients, voluntary and community sector organisations and with our NHS provider colleagues. In the last year we have worked to build on the important relationships with the City Council, our main NHS providers (Newcastle upon Tyne Hospitals Foundation Trust and Northumberland, Tyne and Wear Foundation Trust) the voluntary and community sector as provider and supporter of the patient voice and directly with our patients.

Who are we working with?

Changes in the NHS mean that decisions about what health services are available for local people will be made by the healthcare professionals who are the closest to you and your communities.

We work closely with other NHS organizations, the City Council and many other bodies to prepare our plans and to review and improve services for patients. We are responsible for using public funding in a way that achieves the best outcomes for our patients and as a consequence, are focused on getting the maximum value possible from the resources that are available to us.

In taking on these new duties we will be practical, will work as a team and be driven by the needs of our patients to make sure that the best possible healthcare is available for the people of Newcastle.
